Landform Vocabulary (Science Blog Post #2)


Erosion-the action or process of eroding
Flood-a rising or overflowing of water mainly in dry land 
Weathering-the action of the weather conditions in altering the color, texture, composition, or form of exposed objects
Deforestation- the action or process of clearing of forests
Earth's plates- tectonic plate
Landslides-the usually rapid downward movement of a mass of rock, earth, or artificial fill on a slope
Glaciers a large body of ice moving slowly down a slope or valley or spreading outward on a land surface
rapid process erosion- rapid eroding
slow process erosion-slow eroding
Tsunami- a great sea wave produced especially by submarine earth movement or volcanic eruption
Earthquakesurface soil usually including the organic layer in which plants have most of their roots and which the farmer turns over in plowing
Debristhe remains of something broken down or destroyed
Topsoilsurface soil usually including the organic layer in which plants have most of their roots and which the farmer turns over in plowing
Sediment-surface soil usually including the organic layer in which plants have most of their roots and which the farmer turns over in plowing
Volcanoes-a vent in the crust of the earth or another planet or a moon from which usually molten or hot rock and steam issue
Canyon- something shaped like a capital Greek delta
Plateau-a usually extensive land area having a relatively level surface raised sharply above adjacent land on at least one side
Dune- 
a hill or ridge of sand piled up by the wind
delta- 
something shaped like a capital Greek delta
Valley- a 
depression of the earth's surface usually between ranges of hills or mountains
